WEB GEMS- Bot 4th: Paul Konerko robbed Chris Coste of a base hit.
Paul Konerko smashed 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the Nimrod Numnuts outscored
the Jefferson Park Penguins 9 to 6.
Nimrod came through with the game-winning runs in the top of the 9th inning
with 3 runs utilizing 3 base hits. Chone Figgins started the inning off
right when he drew a walk. Luis Castillo stepped into the batter's box and
he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Konerko then lined a base-hit driving in a
run. Scott Hatteberg was up next and he doubled. Andruw Jones stepped into
the box and was walked intentionally to load the bases. Johnny Estrada added
to the uprising and slapped a single as two more runners crossed the plate.
Estrada took second on the throw. Jefferson Park was not lacking for run
support as they scored in 5 separate innings, yet victory eluded them as they
seemed to forget that pitching is also needed to win ballgames.
The win went to David Aardsma(2-0) who allowed no runs in 1 and 2/3 innings.
Chad Gaudin(2-1) suffered the loss in relief. 'It's just about getting in a
good hitting position and just going out there and being prepared,' Konerko
said. 'You try to hit in your own capacity and not do too much. I just try to
have a good approach, day after day, game by game, and pitch by pitch.'
